Who Is That Guy?

Hi, I’m Zane Huss— a visual storyteller working primarily in print media —creating graphics for anything from board games to children’s books with a focus on humble characters traveling difficult roads

I often like to think of people—and characters—as animals.
If I had to pick one for myself, it’d be the common pigeon.

Pigeons aren’t flashy. They don’t roar or flaunt their colors. But they have an incredible sense of direction and, for centuries, were trusted to carry important messages across long distances—quietly, reliably, and without needing applause.

That idea shows up in three principles that guide everything I do:

DIRECTION (Where we’re going)

Having a vision is great. Sharing it is better. I don’t believe in keeping ideas locked inside my head—I want to invite people into them. Through clear explanations, sketches, and pre-visualization, I make sure everyone on the team knows where we’re headed and can enjoy the journey getting there.

MESSAGE. (Why we’re going there)

Every design choice I make serves the message.I try very hard not to make things “cool for cool’s sake.” My goal isn’t to impress—it’s to communicate. When the message comes first, the design becomes stronger, clearer, and more memorable (like a note tied to a pigeon’s leg).

HUMILITY (How we get there)

Humility makes empathy possible—and empathy is one of art’s greatest superpowers. If we aren’t listening, we aren’t connecting. I approach my work with curiosity, care, and respect for the people on the other side of the page, trusting that good design starts with good listening.
